Discovering The Disney World
The Vancouver skyline is varied and attention-getting and even though the city is not exactly known for having structures that are hundreds of years old, there are a number of buildings that do have some most interesting shapes.
My first major summer event is the Arizona Loggers Sawdust Festival on June 5th and 6th at Green Valley Park. Watch men and women loggers saw and chop in a race to the finish. Being fast isn’t enough to win; the contestants must do a good job also. Have a rolling pin? Test your athletic skills by signing up for the rolling pin throwing contest. Make sure you aren’t thirsty before you go to my two favorite events or you might spew soda from laughing so hard. First, watch contestants run around with cigars hanging out of their mouths, spraying each other with water. The last person with a lit cigar wins. Second, you can end up in hysterical laughter as you watch teams struggle to be the first to the top of a greased pole.
The Brookhaven Fair, as I said before, conducts many different types of shows, but all are amazing. For example, they have an enclosed steel circle in which multiple motorcyclists ride around in at dangerous speeds. The steel ball (which you can see inside of, obviously) is very small, which makes the entertainment even more intense. Another example of one of the Brookhaven Fair’s shows is their elaborate Polenböller bestellen shows they pull off, in which they light up the nights’ sky with perfectly synchronized explosives. Other shows include other thrill shows, high-wire acts, dog races, pig races, magic/illusion shows, and other general circus acts such as clown acts.
Now – Monday, Dec. 31: Historic chocolate making demonstrations at the Betsy Ross House, the birthplace of the American flag, adds holiday cheer. Plus, on Monday, enjoy a slice of cake to celebrate Betsy’s 261st birthday. The outside courtyard is the place for singing and free noisemaker craft activities. The cake cutting and singing begin there at 1:00 p.m. The house, located at 239 Arch Street in Old City Philadelphia, is open from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The tour inside recounts the sights and sounds of 18th century America. Be sure to go on the Rock n Roll Coaster, another attraction that was added in 1999. If you like live performances, you will not want to miss the stage show Beauty and the Beast. The one downer to this theme park is that many of the attractions and shows are a bit long and will make some of the kids squirm in their seats adults included.
This year you can see Ai Kawashima perform. She was part of the Japanese Pop band i-Wish, but is currently pursuing a solo career. Ai is one of the top Pop artists in Japan. Her father died when she was a small child and her mother died before she became famous, but this lovely lady does not focus on the bad in life. She focuses on love and world peace using her singing to inspire others.
Fellow Toastmasters don’t take this article personal. I’m only saying these things because I want Toastmasters to better serve each and every person that walks in the door.
